Reconciliation is a guiding principle of our strategy at Australian Red Cross.
Truth-telling plays an essential role in reconciliation, helping to heal deep-rooted wounds and build trust between communities. The deeper our understanding of our shared history becomes among all people in Australia, the greater our appreciation and celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, leading to collective growth and well-being for all.
With over ten years' experience and commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Australian Red Cross launched its fourth Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in March 2024: 'Reconciliation In Action - Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan’. This RAP was approved by Australian Red Cross National Board and officially accredited by Reconciliation Australia. Our reconciliation movement is guided by the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership team, the RAP Implementation Group and our RAP Champions. These key groups have stayed focused and pushed us to stretch our reconciliation aspirations without losing sight of the past.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. While there have been notable strides towards reconciliation in recent years, there is still much work to be done to address historical injustices, heal past wounds in a just, equitable and reconciled Australia.
Australian Red Cross wants to ensure that our reconciliation journey is impactful for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people in Australia. We can learn from past mistakes and are looking forward to establishing a solid foundation that will grow our impact in the years ahead.
Reconciliation In Action’s top priority is setting us up for meaningful, long-term reconciliation. Our fourth RAP will set Australian Red Cross up for sustainable growth by ensuring strong governance, cultural safety and transparency against goals and targets.
We want to be trusted as the leading humanitarian organisation making a genuine difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
