Australian Red Cross (Red Cross) provides help and support to migrants in Australia, including people who have experienced human trafficking, forced labour or forced marriage. You may be eligible for a Support Program that can provide:

  • a caseworker
  • financial support
  • employment support
  • access to health
  • support in finding a safe place to live
  • counselling and emotional support

We can also provide you with information about other organisations and agencies that might be able to help you.

Anti-Slavery Australia

Anti-Slavery Australia can provide free and confidential legal and migration assistance if you are experiencing modern slavery, including extreme labour exploitation anywhere in Australia.

Anti-Slavery Australia can help you:

  • find out about your legal rights and your options
  • apply for a visa and talk to immigration
  • stay safe through safely plans and court orders
  • take legal action
  • find other support – like counselling, housing and financial help
  • make reports to the police, if you want to.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) can protect people who are experiencing human trafficking, forced labour or forced marriage. You can ask the AFP to refer you to Red Cross. If you are not comfortable contacting the AFP, you can contact Red Cross for advice.

Reports to AFP can be anonymous.

The Additional Referral Pathway is a way for people to access support if they are experiencing or have experienced exploitation known as modern slavery.

The Salvation Army can help you to:

  • access free and confidential support
  • understand your rights and options
  • connect to free legal advice about your experience of modern slavery
  • address your immediate safety and wellbeing needs.

If eligible, we can refer you to the Australian Red Cross Support for Trafficked People Program.

NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner

The NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner is required to identify and provide assistance and support to victims of modern slavery and their families. The Commissioner helps victims receive the supports they need from government and non-government agencies but does not investigate individual cases. The Commissioner is independent of government and communications with the Commissioner are confidential.
