With Tropical Cyclone Alfred set to make landfall in the coming days, Australian Red Cross has opened Register.Find.Reunite. and is urging people in NSW and QLD to register now and get in touch with their families and friends.
For many people in the path of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, this is their first experience of a disaster, or a disaster of this scale. During emergencies the anxiety and confusion that can come from not knowing where your loved ones are, can be overwhelming. Register.Find.Reunite. (R.F.R.) provides a simple and effective way to ease that distress by helping families and friends stay connected.
If you are in the watch or warning zone for Tropical Cyclone Alfred in New South Wales or Queensland, Australian Red Cross encourages you to register or enquire through the Register.Find.Reunite. service. The service not only registers that you are safe, but your location.
People can register and look for someone with R.F.R. on the Australian Red Cross website at redcross.org.au from a computer or any mobile device or via the QR code attached. They can also register at any local evacuation centre.
The service works by matching registrations from people affected by the emergency with enquiries from loved ones searching for news. When a match is made and consent is given, those searching will be notified.
Whether you’re leaving or staying where you are, R.F.R helps people to know what you’re doing and that you’re okay. If you need to move or change locations during an emergency, you can register again.
Australian Red Cross urges everyone to prepare early and stay informed — and, if impacted, to use RFR to stay connected and supported. For more information on emergency preparedness and coping with stress, visit redcross.org.au/emergencies/resources/.
