Fashion meets fundraising once again on Friday 16 August, as the Melbourne Town Hall hosts a three day Pop-Up Shop during a milestone week for Australian Red Cross.
Returning for its third run, the temporary retail space will showcase a curated selection of new and pre-loved high-quality garments from popular high street brands with all funds raised going towards the delivery of Australian Red Cross humanitarian programs.
Australian Red Cross’ Head of Retail Richard Wood said the event was shaping up to be even bigger than last year with the location of the Pop-Up Shop holding a special place in Australian Red Cross’ history.
“110 years ago the Melbourne Town Hall was the location of Australian Red Cross’ first national office, now it plays host to some of our major fundraising events.
“As part of the anniversary celebrations, the iconic Town Hall as well as other major landmarks around the country, will shine red from sunset to sunrise in recognition of those who have contributed to the vital humanitarian work of the Australian Red Cross for the last 110 years”.
Last year, the Melbourne Pop-Up Shop saw thousands of items sold, with roughly 3,500kg of clothing diverted from landfill.
“We have thousands of items up for grabs, and there's something for everyone, from clothes to accessories and footwear. When you make a purchase, no matter how big or how small, you help us support people facing vulnerability in communities, here in Australia and further afield”.
“The added bonus is when you make a purchase at the Pop-Up, you’re also supporting the circular economy by promoting sustainability and giving clothing another life,” Mr Wood said.
All funds raised by the Pop-Up can make a real difference in the lives of people facing hardship, disaster, and crisis by supporting Australian Red Cross humanitarian programs both locally and globally.
