Youth development and employment will be front and centre at a new Australian Red Cross hub in Port Lincoln.
Launching today, the Port Lincoln Youth Development Hub will support 260 young people over two years to engage in training and learn about employment pathways in retail and hospitality, including through an on-site Australian Red Cross retail store and coffee shop.
The Hub is a collaboration between Australian Red Cross and an extensive list of industry and training partners1 to support unemployed and disengaged youth to become work ready, with a focus on maximising regional employment.
Through an on-site coffee making service, a coffee van which will be available for community events, and an Australian Red Cross Shop, the space will facilitate supported work experience and develop industry specific skills and experience.
Australian Red Cross State Director for South Australia, Sarah Strathearn said the hub will go beyond building young people’s skills, to also develop their confidence.
“We are focused on developing social and interpersonal skills to enable young people to engage in sustainable employment,” Ms Strathearn said.
“Participating young people can also develop vocational aspiration through goal setting, and building industry networks.
To support the new initiative Australian Red Cross is calling for volunteers with retail experience who are interested in working alongside and supporting young people as part of the new Youth Development Hub and retail store.
