Red Cross announces new CEO

Australian Red Cross is pleased to announce the appointment of Kym Pfitzner as the organisation’s chief executive officer.

The appointment, effective immediately, comes after Mr Pfitzner was seconded as Interim CEO in September 2020, from his role on the Board of Australian Red Cross.

Mr Pfitzner has previously been CEO, CFO and COO for global advertising holding companies, most recently Dentsu Aegis Network. He has extensive corporate development experience, having headed up the acquisition of more than 200 businesses.

Australian Red Cross President, Ross Pinney, said the appointment came after input from an international search firm.

“Kym has tremendous experience at the top levels of leadership in large, complex, people-focused organisations,” said Mr Pinney.

“We are delighted to appoint him to the role.”

Mr Pfitzner said: “I feel privileged and humbled to lead the nation’s largest humanitarian organisation. I am most impressed by the professionalism and passion of the staff, and the commitment of our volunteers and members to help those in our communities in times of need.

“It is such a challenging time globally and here in Australia – we have just experienced the highest demand of our services since World War II.
