How are donations to refugees and asylum seekers spent?
Funds raised will allow Red Cross to expand our humanitarian work to help improve the plight of asylum seekers and refugees across Australia including:
- Alleviating hardship: Emergency financial relief for asylum seekers and refugees living on little or no income in the Australian community
- Support to start life again: Linking people to housing, education and social support programs to assist their transition into Australian communities and reduce social isolation
- Community and school education: Volunteer run programs to engage Australians about the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers to help to build a more compassionate society
- Upholding dignity and wellbeing in detention: Extra support for monitoring visits to check on the welfare of people in immigration detention centres in Australia, raising humanitarian concerns directly and confidentially with authorities
- Reconnecting families: linking families and loved ones separated by migration, war and disaster.
