Everyone deserves a safe place to call home and an opportunity to contribute to their community. Every day, refugees and people seeking asylum come to Red Cross for help. Most are living day-to-day, many are searching for work, some are unable to work, and most do not receive any income support.
For some families, separation from loved ones as a result of conflict, disaster or migration, means there is an urgent need to find missing family members.

Every month we help thousands of people. During the COVID-19 pandemic we have seen a more than a threefold increase in people seeking asylum needing support, due to lost work and income.

- $30 can help a young person seeking work to afford public transport to job interviews.
- $80 can provide groceries and help put culturally appropriate food on the table for a refugee family in Australia.
- $200 can help children with school books, bags and other items to start school.
- $500 can support an investigation to trace people who are missing as a result of conflict, disaster or migration

Your questions answered
Your donation helps people whose survival, dignity and health is at risk, irrespective of how they arrived in Australia. Most of these people are waiting for their protection claims to be assessed. Many are ineligible for government support. Most are struggling to find work. Some just need a safe place to work out what they will do next.
Donations to the Refugee and Asylum Seeker Appeal help Red Cross to provide everyday essentials like food, financial relief, vouchers and casework to migrants facing significant hardship. Donations also help us link people to services like housing, employment, education and social support; and reconnect families who have been separated.
Red Cross will not deduct more than 10% from this appeal to cover appeal and administration costs.
If the funds raised exceed the pressing needs of people seeking asylum and refugees, or due to circumstances beyond our control, then Red Cross will use the funds in assisting other vulnerable people in Australia.
Donations of $2 or more may be tax deductible for Australian taxpayers.
- Over 2,200 refugees to settle in Australia, 42% of whom children, supporting people to connect with communities, access health and other services, undertake training, and secure employment.
- We expanded our safety net to reach more than 145,000 migrants on temporary visas or with uncertain visa status who did not have access to mainstream support, including reaching over 30,000 people through food parcels.
- We sought to trace a total of 2,380 people to restore family links broken by conflict, disaster or migration during this time. We achieved positive outcomes in 218 cases and enabled 60 family news messages to be exchanged between separated family members.
