Below is information on a very small selection of our numerous programs.
Daily phone calls | Good Start Breakfast Clubs | Safe Water and sanitation
Betty lives on a remote rural property, but as a widow she relies on the security she gets from her daily phone call from a friendly Red Cross volunteer.
Red Cross provides free daily phone calls to check on the wellbeing of people who are at risk of an accident or illness that may go unnoticed. The calls provide reassurance as well as helping people to maintain their independence. Friendly Red Cross volunteers make calls each morning 365 days a year. If the call is not answered, Red Cross takes action to ensure everything is okay.
A staggering one in four Aussie kids like goes to school without a proper breakfast. It affects not only their concentration in class but also their physical and emotional development.
Red Cross works with community groups, volunteers and schools to provide healthy breakfasts to more than 5,000 kids in need every day of the school year. Every year Red Cross volunteers serve over 750,000 nutritious breakfasts to Aussie kids. By becoming a regular monthly supporter you will be an essential part of maintaining and expanding this vital program for vulnerable Australian children.
Unsafe water along with poor sanitation are major preventable causes of death and disease in the world's poorest countries. Children are especially vulnerable - and every 20 seconds a child dies as a result of poor sanitation. That's a shocking 1.5 million preventable deaths a year.
Red Cross empowers communities across the Asia Pacific region to prevent needless deaths by improving water and sanitation systems.
As a regular monthly supporter, for just $1 a day, you will be helping vulnerable people throughout the region receive clean water and sanitation and reduce the devastating impact of waterborne diseases in these communities.
