Assist community leaders to advocate for the rights of children who are orphaned or made vulnerable through the AIDS crisis in Uganda. This hands-on role will see you developing issue papers, working with the media and liaising with local governments and international donors.
The International HIV/AIDS Alliance is a global partnership of non-government organisations that support communities in developing countries to respond to the challenge of AIDS.
One of the Alliance's most significant projects in Uganda is a $20m initiative to support organisations that provide services to orphans and vulnerable children.
An Australian Volunteer is being sought to support the Alliance in advocating on behalf of orphaned and vulnerable children with local governments, international agencies and communities engaged in the project.
The volunteer will help develop issue papers, support media relations, liaise with community leaders and key stakeholders, and support the training of community leaders to act as advocates.
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- Experience developing advocacy resources, including issue papers
- Understanding of issues affecting orphans and vulnerable children
- Experience in training others in advocacy
- Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
